Hari Om Namo Narayana!

(Rasputin was a self proclaimed holy man, mystic and ‘healer’ who is rumored to have had an affair with Alexandra, Empress of Russia, wife of Tsar Nicholas the second. He had this conjunction in his 4th house.)
Before we begin, I just wrote an answer about the South node of the Moon ‘Ketu’ conjunct Moon that explains a lot of concepts about planetary conjunctions with the South node.
You are encouraged to check that out to gain deeper insights into the concepts of what South node conjunctions are like and how they behave.https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-bad-effects-of-Moon-and-Ketu-conjunction-in-horoscope/answer/Jay-Kaushal-1
So now, when we are talking about the conjunction of the South node of the Moon ‘Ketu’ with the significator of the soul, confidence, authority and fame: Sun.
- See whenever you have planets conjunct the South node of the Moon in your chart, they point towards a past life expertise in the area signified by that planet. The soul is naturally comfortable with all aspects of that planet and what it stands for.
- These traits have been developed and explored extensively in previous incarnations for the individual. In this lifetime, the individual is supposed to ‘let go’ of these characteristics and move towards the ‘Rahu’ area of their chart and develop any traits signified by the conjunction of the North node with any planets.
- Let’s say for example, we have an individual who has the North node conjunct Mars and the South node conjunct Saturn.
- This individual is here to develop their focus, aggression, drive and ‘instincts’ as these are the basic qualities of the planet Mars.
- However, in past lifetimes, this individual has had sufficient experiences and cycles of development that have granted them the uncanny knack of patience, discipline and structure. These are the basic qualities of the planet Saturn.
- Now, in this lifetime, Saturnian traits for this individual will form the basis of their approach towards life however it is the Martian traits that they are required to develop and master to give the soul the experience of growth and development that it has come seeking to move closer to liberation.
The problem is, it’s not that easy. It is simple but not easy.
Why is that?
- It’s because it takes the individual a while to navigate through the ‘maaya’ of the material plane and actually approach life from the perspective of developing the traits that they need to master but as yet have very little to no experience of.
So what happens whenever they are faced with opposition, adversity or conflict?
- The soul, which is the endless, formless, origin less entity of being, immediately recedes back to rely on the experiences that it already has mastered to deal with present life problems through.
- So in this example, the individual when faced with conflict, may be well aware that they need to exercise the qualities of focus and aggression but instinctively approach problems in a Saturnian fashion. This means the individual’s natural response to adversity would be an approach of perseverance and patience.
- Now, the qualities of perseverance and patience are noble qualities indeed however everyone has their own journey and for this individual, these may not be the most optimum qualities to exercise when approaching problems relevant to their life.
This causes frustration and angst quite often and then natives begin to blame the nodes. Haha
So, what happens when you have the Sun conjunct the South node of the Moon?
- Well, Sun conjunct the South node of the Moon points to an individual who has mastered the traits of authority, dominance and fame in previous lifetimes.
- In this lifetime as well, the individual will have a natural knack of being in authority, exercising authority, wielding power and getting fame and recognition.
- However, this does not ‘just happen’.
- The individual quite often is lost in self doubt, self criticism, low confidence and lack of clarity of purpose because when they try to move towards the North node, they sometimes entirely let go of the qualities of the South node and the planet conjunct with it.
- Which may be much to their own detriment.
- On other times, they may rely too heavily on chasing recognition, fame and power that it ends up putting them in a position that is not entirely fruitful for them. Quite the contrary in fact.
Exploring this conjunction in every single house will make this answer extremely long so I will just explore its impact in the ‘kendra’ houses i.e. 1,4,7 and 10. Will keep adding its impact in other houses as well as time progresses.
1. So let’s say you have Sun conjunct the South node in the 1st house.
- The individual is naturally inclined to pursue fame, recognition and power and respect for just being themselves. This can many times earn them needless rivalries and enmity.
- The individual is more prone to loneliness and isolation because whenever the individual tries to move towards partnerships, relationships, public dealings, marriage etc, they feel a drop in confidence and power and this conjunction gives them the tendency to always want to be in power.
- These individuals love to be in control even if quite often, they can’t handle it.
2. Sun conjunct South node in the 4th house.
- This is the case study mentioned at the title of this answer. The example of famous Russian mystic Rasputin.
- Rasputin wielded a lot of power in his homeland.
- Rasputin was a family friend of Tsar Nicholas the second, in late imperial Russia. In time, his proximity to the Russian Empress Alexandra grew so considerably that when Nicholas left St. Petersburg in 1915 to oversee Russian war efforts during the First World War, Rasputin along with Alexandra almost became the de facto ruler of the Russian Empire.
- Now you can research history to understand the negative influences of his fame.
- He was vastly seen as a divisive figure at court, seen by soon as a charlatan, by others as mystic, a holy man, a healer and by many as an enigma.
- The result of so much unwanted attention and fame was that even though he got the power that he was destined to get in fact because the North node in the 10th house was obviously going to grant him status and power in this lifetime. This was his soul’s desire.
- However, his continued control and dominance over his motherland was what eventually lead to his downfall as rumours began to circulate of his affair with Alexandra.
- Russian defeats kept on piling during the war and it ultimately lead to him being assassinated.
- So you can see that you may study the conjunction in houses in the same way.
3. Let’s say this conjunction occurs in the 7th house.
- Shows that the individual has a very high dominance in personal relationships, negotiation and business. This is a person who quite often very skilled and seeks a lot of recognition and power mainly due to their ability to form alliances.
- The thing is the North node in the first house shows the real area that is demanding attention and development i.e. self knowledge, self mastery and individuality.
- However, the individual is quite stuck in situations where they exert their influence through partnerships.
- In this way, conjunctions with the South node are especially tricky because when you move towards the North node which is after all your soul’s desire and purpose in this lifetime, you find yourself bereft of the qualities of the planet conjunct the South Node.
4. For example, for an individual who has this conjunction in the 10th house:
- Working on the home, inner satisfaction and inner peace may seem like what they really need to do and accomplish in this lifetime and it is. However, whenever the native shifts their focus from the career to their domestic life and trying to enjoy life more privately, they feel their confidence disappear.
- So in this way, it is tough to navigate this conjunction and in my opinion North node based conjunctions are actually a lot more easy to navigate even though are negatively expressed.
However, after 48 when ‘Ketu’ matures, the positive impact of this conjunction begins to be expressed.
Even so, there is a lot to be analyzed here especially the ‘nakshatras’ involved and quite often it can even be the case that the individual is here in this lifetime specifically to fulfill one of the pending tasks from a previous lifetime and that is why is born with a natural inclination towards and knowledge for being in power and ‘reclaiming’ authority, fame and dominance.
As always, the evaluations may vary based on specific chart details. These are general outlines of how this conjunction may behave.
I hope this answers your question.
