What is the effect of Rahu in the 7th house of birth chart?

Hari Om Namo Narayana!

(‘Tantric’ deity ‘Varaahi’ can be very helpful in harnessing the positive energies of this placement)

This placement of the North node ‘Rahu’ is probably the most misunderstood of all.

For those of you who are new to my writing, you are encouraged to check out my answer about the South node ‘Ketu’ in the first house to understand this placement from a 360 perspective.https://qr.ae/pvYJ9i

Why?

  • Because when the North node is in the 7th then the South node is in the 1st. Right? So you need to look at both perspectives.

Now, I’m going to start by building a base and moving from the energetic perspective of the South node placement in the first house.

Why?

  • Because in this case, the South node is in the ascendant so it is very important for us to first understand the soul’s journey and life path of the native before we move to their soul’s agenda in the current lifetime with the North node placement.

So:

  1. The North node is the compass for your soul for this lifetime.
    1. Its sole purpose is to point out to the soul the direction it needs to take in this lifetime to grow.
    2. It does that by delivering the promised experience to the soul. That’s it. Nothing more.
      1. This growth is often pending for a long period of time for the soul.
      2. This could have been because the soul has had to develop in other areas in previous lifetimes due to ‘karmic’ challenges or requirements.
      3. This could also be because the soul has had difficulties moving out of the ‘stereotype’ of its South node placement in the chart.

What does it mean?

  • Well the South node shows us where the soul has been able to acquire the most experience over many lifetimes. This is the soul’s area of strength so to speak.
  • In this lifetime however, the soul is needing to let go of this stereotype and transform into the placement indicated by the North node.

Now obviously, this process of ‘change’ is going to be difficult because the soul doesn’t have sufficient experience of development in that area of life.

However that is also where ultimate development lies for it.

Therefore it must pursue it even if it means that it falters and errs more often than it gets it right.

Why is it so important you ask?

  • Well that’s because the only reason we are all stuck here in the material plane is because we have some unresolved ‘desires’.
  • So it doesn’t matter whether we seek spiritual development, fame, status, career development or sexual experiences.. the harsh reality is.. we are all in the same boat.
  • The only apparent ‘differences’ we see in our paths are a result of the veil of ‘maaya’ or illusion which is once again, an essential part of life here on the material plane.

Now, we can all run from the experiences, the lack of fulfillment of which is still keeping us bound to this material plane or we can ‘fail forward’ as they say.. into the completion of the same.

What does that mean?

  • It means that what you desire the most is where you will make the most mistakes and also experience the most growth. However, do not forget what you are here for. You are a soul having a physical experience not vice versa.
  • You are a soul whose purpose is to grow from the set of experiences it signed up for before manifesting on the planet. Therefore how you feel about those experiences really doesn’t matter as long as you are moving towards your innermost desire which essentially flows out from the core of your soul!

Yes you can choose to consciously release all of this and follow the ‘yogic’ path as well. However you need to be 100% sure that it is what you truly desire. Otherwise if you realize towards the end of life that you missed out on important experiences and seek to be born again.. the whole purpose is defeated because you are yet again trapped in the cycle of death and rebirth.

The problem with this cycle is that the more time you spend in this cycle, the more you become ‘conscious’ through the experience but also the more painful it becomes.

Why?

  • Because your soul has gone through these cycles so many times that the experiences have slowly begun to take their toll on you and you feel the futility of it all ‘too much’.
    • You know how you’re a sportsman at the fag end of your career but still popular with the fans and still respected by the competitors.. yet it’s so-hard-to-recover that you’re beginning to dislike the game;
      • It’s time for you to retire?
    • You know how in action movies quite often the protagonist is a macho personality that everyone is in awe of but he says in a bored worn out fashion: “I’m getting too old for this crap”?

Yeah, that my friend is the crux of this placement.

With the South node in the first house the natives are extremely spiritual.

Even if they are not spiritual, life will very quickly make them spiritual in a matter of few years sometimes or even weeks sometimes just 2–3 key experiences that shape them forever.

  • You see, the biggest lesson for these individuals in this lifetime, the lesson that will make them the most powerful version of themselves..
  • Is to learn to ‘let go’.
  • If they don’t understand it well enough or try to resist it, the results can be excruciatingly painful.

The South node ‘Ketu’ is not a kind planet.

He doesn’t bring delays like Saturn or conflicts like Mars.

He doesn’t put you into situations where you must make a sacrifice to shine like the Sun and he doesn’t give you the opportunity to ‘learn from the experience’ like Jupiter.

The South node simply ‘takes away’ what is no longer serving your soul.

Just like that.

Here one day.

Gone tomorrow.

No closure given.

No sympathies supplied.

The point of that experience is to push you towards finding the answers through becoming spiritual.

  • So these individuals with the South node in first, are quite developed from a long journey through many lifetimes.
    • These are the quintessential ‘old souls’.
      • The problem is, wisdom comes to them only after a certain bit of suffering in life.
      • It comes when they hold on to the wrong things and even ideas and views about themselves.. and those things are taken away from them.
      • Then they realize where they need to change and what they had been doing wrong all along.
      • Which is when they start moving towards the North node.

With the North node in the 7th house, the biggest lesson for the soul is that you need other people in life.

  • South node in ascendant people are so instinctively ‘independent’ that they are very shaky in relying on others.
  • When they do early in life, they tend to get disappointed in major ways.
  • Heartaches, breakups, divorces, betrayals.. most people with this North node placement have faced most or all of these in their life.
  • And yet, these individuals are often the most charming, magnanimous and flirtatious people out there.

Why?

Because all that loss and ‘letting go’ eventually teaches you how to become a more loving individual.

  • With the North node in the 7th house the native is the life of the party.
  • They will observe little details about you and use them to impress you and charm you.
  • These people are very calm, collected, composed and self assured.
  • Their supreme knowledge of themselves and a confidence in their ability to ‘judge a room’ paves the way for them to be able to mingle with others at will.
  • These people look at relationships as an ‘art’.

For them, all of their heartbreaks and disappointments in life have taught them that mostly all relationships are transactional.

  • This is not a negative thing I am saying to diss people with this placement, it’s just that most people with the South node in the first house have been:
    • taken advantage of in relationships
    • abandoned by people they have trusted deeply
    • disappointed by people they have loved
    • shown by life that everything is temporary

When you have these kind of experiences in life, you become somewhat dead in side or at least fairly numb.

The heart holds on dearly to the notion that ‘true love’ or an ‘equal connection’ exists out there and they will find it someday but the mind looks at the proof that life has given them for the same and finds none.

This is what teaches these people to become ‘loving’ as a whole.

They have experienced that lack and therefore transformed in a way that makes up for it through their behavior.

Especially the more spiritually advanced ones with this placement have a charm that just attracts people towards them inexplicably.

The less spiritually advanced individuals can fall into lower consciousness patterns of behavior where they may go from one person to another without allowing themselves to truly feel a connection.

Why?

Because it hurts!

I mean, people write all kinds of crap about this North node placement but I can assure you that if you could organize a ‘focus group’ of people with this placement haha.. you will be depressed for days after listening to the kind of heartbreaks they’ve had in life.

  • Most of these people are strong ‘givers’.
    • It takes them a while to realize that most people who take from them aren’t in a position to give back to them the way they deserve.. or don’t want to.
    • It takes them a while to understand that people lie, cheat, betray, make false commitments and use others for their benefit.
  • To them, they start out by looking at the world through glasses of ‘fairness’ but in due time realize that ‘justice’ is fairly delayed if not missing in the world.
    • This may translate into these individuals becoming the sort of people who ‘take what they want’ by sweet talking themselves into the right situations, circumstances and groups.

See with the South node in the first house, the individual has lifetimes of experience of being able to use force and violence.

However with the North node in the 7th, in this lifetime their journey is to learn how to become more vulnerable and let go of the need to ‘control’.

One of the most visible areas that this is expressed is their sweet talking charming demeanor.

You will find these individuals pay a lot of attention to their appearance and interactions with others.

The most memorable example I can recall for this is the great Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw, the general who won India the Bangladesh war.

Indira Gandhi, PM of the country at the time, called Sam at a very critical moment before the Indo Pak war of 1971, to ask if he was ready to begin strategic operations in East Pakistan.

Guess how he responded?

“I’m always ready sweetie!”

This is the kind of demeanor only someone with North node in the 7th house can have.

99% of the time someone else trying the same would have ended up sounding crass.

Not Sam.

Why?

Because you have to understand one thing:

With the South node in the first house, the individual is so damn confident in his or her ability to fulfill their part in relationships that if you have any sort of a relationship with someone who has North node in the 7th house.. they always have an upper hand.

They won’t control it but you will really feel their absence if they were to walk out such is your level of dependence on them.

So in this case, Sam was the general and the terms of his relationship with the PM were that he as the general needed to deliver on the strategic militaristic advantages.

He was so sure of it that the cockiness of that South node in the first is expressed by the charming sensuality of the North node in the 7th.

It’s almost as if the individual is saying:

“Not only can I do what I do, which is a confidence I hold deep within my heart, why waste the opportunity this interaction has given us to become a little more loving?”

  • This is where, and I am not trying to justify but just stating facts, North node in the 7th house can give the native a tendency to indulge in multiple love affairs.
  • Quite often they don’t even realize how much the other party has gotten involved by falling prey to their charming nature.
    • I mean most people play this angle as if people with the North node in the 7th house are sex crazed freaks.
    • Hell no!
    • These are quintessential romantics that will draw you into their mystical charm.
    • Even if they don’t physically look so beautiful or handsome, there is often ‘something about them’ that is very attractive.
  • One reason could also probably be that with the South node in the first house you tend to ‘maintain’ your physical appearance all your life, a lot better than others at least.

Let’s look at some timeless heartthrobs at this point:

Madhuri Dixit (She’s 55!)

Amitabh Bachchan (He’s 80!)

All three have the North node in the 7th house.

It’s important to add here that with the South node in the first, unless there are any conjunctions of afflictions changing the nature of the nodal placements, natives can easily be comfortable in celibacy for long periods of time as well.

  • This depends a lot on how much they have worked to develop their spiritual side with the South node.

Since the 7th house is 10th from the 10th, it also shows that these people are able to work hard and build quite a reputation for themselves in their chosen area of work.

However, early on in life, there may be a lot of uncertainty and fluctuations in the same Of course if the 10th house is strong and the 10th lord is strongly placed, this influence will be minimized.

  • A lot of people say that this is the placement for ‘mass fame’.
    • Well you can have ‘mass fame’ with the nodes in any of the ‘kendra’ houses i.e. 1,4,7,10.
    • It’s just that the nature of that fame is going to be very different based on the placement.
    • For example, with this placement, the native may be going about life doing their thing not concerned or bothered about the world and they become famous out of the blue for some manner of public interaction (indicated by their North node in the 7th).
  • North node here shows that the native’s search for ‘balance’ is a lifelong search.
  • Since the 7th house corresponds to the natural sign of Libra and the North node is there, it shows that these abilities are slowly perfected over time.
  • It takes a lot of life experience and ‘letting go’ for these people to be able to realize that the ‘right balance’ is never absolute but continuously arrived at.

These people can be great lawyers because they possess an uncanny knack of being able to analyze both sides of the argument.

Which is also why they can sometimes be very ruthless and emotionless in their interactions with others. They can cut people off and end a relationship abruptly if they feel they are being taken advantage of or that they have been made more vulnerable than they wanted.

In doing so, if they see their point of view and its fair and convincing, you will probably not get a second chance to convince them otherwise.

So I think it would be a great idea at this point to sum up.

Whenever you have the North node in the 7th house:

1. Relationships are where you will struggle in life but also where you biggest and most important lessons lie.

2. You will grow in life by learning how to form the right relationships.

3. Early on, relationships are likely to cause you a lot of pain and disappointment.

4. Your biggest lesson in life is to become a more ‘loving’, ‘balanced’ individual.

5. You will still have to pick up a lot of slack from others in all kinds of relationships but with the South node in the 1st, you have all the ability to do so.

6. Besides, the biggest way to manage malfunctioning relationships is to just form more relationships. The solution for this placement is always to go into the ‘thick of things’ i.e. marketplaces, events, large organizations and groups. That’s where you will find the ‘key’s that help you unlock your soul’s purpose here in this lifetime.

7. The more you grow spiritually, the better the South node in the first house will work for you. This will help you take better decisions wrt the 7th house and the relationships of your life. Otherwise if you try to ‘discover’ yourself through the lens of others, you will end up giving too much away and being taken advantage of.

8. You are supposed to keep changing and growing spiritually and physically, as the South node in your case is important since it is in the ascendant.

9. However, support from others is going to form a critical link in the chain that leads you to your life purpose.

Now obviously these are still general guidelines.

Specific results will vary based on the individual placements of other planets in the chart as well as the stars they are placed in and their relationships in the divisional charts.

You can check out a couple of my popular answers on the nodes:

If you have the North node in the 7th house, whenever in doubt remember the quote: “None of us is as strong as all of us.”

Hope this helps.
