Hari Om!
(MS Dhoni has his third lord forming a ‘Jaimini raj yoga’ in conjunction with Mars. Restoring bikes is a hobby for which he is well known. In the picture, you see him with a Yamaha RD 350 that he restored.)
Great question.
As I have written in many answers recently, on the topic of planetary time periods, a good approach is to look at the house that planet rules or is placed in your chart.
That will provide more accurate pointers wrt the anticipated impact of that time period, than considerations of the planet itself.
For example while Sun major period may correspond to roughly the same themes of happiness, good times, confidence and recognition, where this Sun is placed has a lot to do in terms of understanding the true impact of that time period on the native’s life.
A Sun major period for an individual with Sun placed in the 7th house will probably bring them many opportunities of being in the light and getting recognized.
However, since Sun in the 7th house is naturally debilitated as the 7th house corresponds to the natural house of the sign of Libra, the overall experience for the native will be less than ideal.
Perhaps the native does get recognized but in the process has to let go of a lot of issues that he or she attach confidence and even pride to.
A great example could be a businessman who is forced to negotiate a lot of agreements for the betterment of their business. These might be agreements that potentially corrode his autonomy but lead to the betterment of their business and garner them more attention and recognition.
For someone undergoing Sun major period with the Sun being placed in the 10th, the energies of the time period will be more consistent with the overall energies of the Sun and find a more active expression.
As in, the individual is not only getting recognition for their work but also are able to express themselves with a certain level of autonomy, power and independence.
In the same way, one can look at planetary time periods purely from the purview of the houses ruled.
Let’s understand the 3rd house briefly:
- The third house is the first in the ‘Kama’ triangle of the 3rd, 7th and 11th houses.
- The third house is also considered a malefic house.
- Why is that?
- That’s because the third house is eighth from the eighth.
- The 8th house is all about unforeseen events or situations that one must face as they come along.
- You probably won’t be able to anticipate these situations even to a reasonable degree unless let’s say your 8th house is exalted.
- So the 3rd house has a lot of the same energy.
- The 3rd house represents matters that we must apply our courage and resolve to tackle.
- These are situations or circumstances where one has to take a hands on approach.
- Why is that?
Now, the way that the material plane works is that the more you take action, the more your chances for success.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a theoretical physicist or a plumber, if you want to move ahead in life, you will need to take action on a consistent basis.
Even spiritual leaders and ascetics needs to take consistent action in order to advance on the spiritual path. You won’t be able to move up the ladder of conscious evolution unless you consistently engage in doing the things you need to do.
This is where the 3rd, 7th and 11th houses have amazing energy in pushing you to take action.
They ignite your desire and once your desire has been ignited, taking action isn’t really that difficult.
Think of it like this:
You are lazing at home on a weekend and not feeling like doing anything.
Then you feel the desire to eat ‘biryani’ so you go online and search for your favorite place to order some.
You go online and you find that your favorite place isn’t delivering at the moment.
So you scroll through other ones but they’re not as good.
You decide to drive to a restaurant for a dine in.
Once there you are informed that they won’t be serving ‘biryani’ until dinner and you can order something else in the meantime.
You go to a couple more places but the value for money just isn’t worth it.
Finally you decide to cook yourself and make it an activity for the weekend.
You go to the supermarket, buy the best condiments, pick yourself a six pack of your favorite drinks and drive home.
After a few hours of dedicated preparation, you finally have what you envisioned in the beginning.
In fact, you have more than enough and you can refrigerate it and have it for the next few days.
That ladies and gentlemen, is the power of desire.
Even if let’s say you didn’t know how to cook well, if the desire was strong enough, you’d follow the recipe and the instructions and be patient until you were able to create semblance of what you consider a good ‘biryani’.
Right?
- The action follows the desire.
- Inspired action follows clear desire.
- So this is why the period of the 3rd house is usually one when the native works very hard to make their dreams a reality.
- This often is visible in their public life i.e. career and work.
- However this can just as easily be seen in their personal life.
Example?
I know a friend who did a perfect restoration of his dad’s old ‘Contessa’ in the major time period of this 3rd house lord.
He didn’t make a career out of it or get recognized in a manner that paid him but lead by ‘desire’, he was actually able to take inspired action to create tangible change.
Now obviously this can go both ways if you are not up to the task.
If your third house is weak or afflicted by malefic planets, you will have a bad time.
The third house actually does well with malefic planets but let’s say you have Saturn conjunct ‘Rahu’ here.
Then for sure you as an individual will be quite confused about what to do and how and this can be quite a harrowing experience.
For example in the case of carrying out a restoration, you may engage in it, get deep into it and realize midway that you have bitten off more than you can chew.. give up and become hopeless.
Yes, you would have learnt from the experience.
Yes, you would have gained from the experience.
How might we qualify the ‘experience’ as whole?
Not good.
So these are some things that happen during the period of the 3rd lord but mostly there will always be more good that comes from it than bad unless the third house itself is in a bad state.
- The best advice for improving the workings of the third house period is to practice, practice, practice and practice.
- I would say approach everything with an open mind with a ‘beginners’ mindset’.
- Be willing and open to learn and you will thank yourself for it. Big time.
- That’s because the third house period you can often be considered very similar to Mercury major period.
- It involves a lot of learning and experiencing that will stay with you throughout your life.
- It makes sense too doesn’t it since the third house corresponds to the sign of Gemini and Gemini is ruled by Mercury.
As always, specific evaluations can only be made by analyzing the chart.
Hope this helps.
