What happens when Saturn Mahadasha starts? How do you make the most of it?

Hari Om Namo Narayana!

Saturn MD is the most character building ‘mahadasha’ out of all of the planetary time periods that you are going to encounter in your life.

However, it’s truly, the simplest of all planetary time periods.

You work, you get rewarded. You don’t, you don’t.

It’s really that simple.

Now for someone born in the ‘nakshatra’ of ‘Anuradha’, ‘Uttarabhadrapada’ or ‘Pushya’, Saturn MD really is like home.

Why is that?

Because these are Saturn ruled ‘nakshatras’ and people born in Saturn ruled ‘nakshatras’ were born in Saturn MD!

These people be like:

And to be honest, it comes as no surprise that ‘Pushya’ and ‘Anuradha’ are two strongest placements for businessmen, leaders and politicians.

Many people born in these ‘nakshatras’ had a tough childhood.

Even if it was not because of lack of finances, it was something else or if nothing else, then just strict parenting and achievement oriented upbringing.

By the time these guys are 19 they already know how the world goes round and everything that comes after that, mostly is quite easy for them.

I’m not generalizing vaguely. It’s a fact and you can check it out in the charts of people born in these ‘nakshatras’ or having lots of planets in Saturn ruled ‘nakshatras’ in their chart or the ascendant.

For others though, Saturn MD feels like Superman losing his special powers.

In the sense that, your ambitions are the same, your call to duty is the same, you just don’t have those special powers anymore!

Too much comics for one day?

Sorry I get bored writing black and white answers all day.

Let’s get serious now.

Now, what happens is, Saturn per se doesn’t cause problems at all.

Also, Saturn may well be giving a person’s chart a lot of ‘Ishta Phala’ thereby making his planetary time period actually quite rewarding.

Even if that’s the case however, even if let’s say a ‘vargottama’ Saturn is forming ‘raja yoga’ in the 11th house, he will not give you even a single penny unless you work for it.

For the uninitiated, ‘Ishta Phala’ is a planet’s ability to give good results in his time period.

Also, Saturn may be placed in a good ‘taara’ and making good ‘yogas’ and giving good ‘ashtakvarga’ points in the house it sits in.

Even then, the ‘problem’ most people face is that they don’t get how Saturn functions.

See every planet is like a teacher and they teach using the tools they have been allotted to teach the soul how to responds to earthly circumstances and propel forward in growth.

  1. Sun teaches through sacrifice.
  2. Moon teaches through having to provide nourishment.
  3. Mars teaches through having to remain focused.
  4. Mercury teaches through having to study and experiment.
  5. Jupiter teaches through embracing higher wisdom, taking the high road.
  6. Ketu’ teaches by separation and taking things away.
  7. Rahu’ teaches by pushing you to ‘think’ and ‘survive’.
  8. Venus teaches by being more loving and inclusive.

Saturn teaches by giving you problems to go through to build the necessary character.

Do bear in mind all of this is in line with what your soul asked for before manifesting on this planet.

See, I’ve written a lot about in my other answers that the ‘Samkhya’ philosophy tells us the soul is the main subject of this physical experience.

Which is to say that every experience the body goes through, is just a medium for the soul to undergo the kind of development and growth it needs to finally be able to release this cycle of death and rebirth all together and transcend from the ‘samsara’ to attain ‘moksha’.

So Saturn’s job is to give you this intense physical, sordid, practical, ‘real’ experience of what it’s like to get things on the physical plane, the ‘mrityu loka’, which is how?

Effort.

Effort.

Effort.

Effort.

Effort and

more effort.

So when Saturn MD comes along, you can bet that Murphy’s law will come to visit you in person.

What does that mean?

It means whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

It means if you didn’t already have your ducks in a row, be prepared to face consequences.

This can get very painful very fast if you’re not used to it.

Now, Saturn’s period comes right after Jupiter’s period.

So let’s say you had your Jupiter in the 5th house and you were cruising along nicely in your life making millions stock trading and shorting the markets now and then.

Suddenly Saturn comes along and your ‘bets’ no longer are profitable.

The more you try to gain back what you have lost by being stuck in old ways and defying what is staring right in your face, the more you will lose money.

You will go on losing until you get your act together and go deeper into the subject, analyze what you do, how you do it, find a way to do it better, burn the midnight oil and work hard.

All those people who believe ‘smart work trumps hard work’, I’m sorry, not under Saturn’s watch!

Saturn will force you to work hard and smart at the same time while also learning to become better at it progressively to be able to reap the same kind of results you were getting earlier.

You get it?

Just to be able to be at the same level as before, you will need to up your game.

The biggest problem is, most people, especially the ones who don’t have any placements in Saturn ruled ‘nakshatras’, the biggest problem is, most people will fight this clarion call tooth and nail.

They will try to bypass the writing on the wall by doing all sorts of things.

Should I wear a Blue Sapphire? What’s the best Blue Sapphire? How about this one for 5lakhs?

Should I do some ‘puja’?

Should I do ‘Shanti patha’?

Should I go to this guy or that guy or some other (random ‘miraculous’) guy?

Unfortunately, none of this will work.

Why?

Because Saturn is here to teach you that nothing will work unless you do.

So to put it quite bluntly and plainly, what happens at the beginning of Saturn MD is that this realization dawns upon you.

The realization that you can solve almost any problem in life by working harder than all your competitors, by outlasting your problems and being regular, consistent and disciplined.

There is no substitute for ‘hard work’.

The sooner you realize it in Saturn MD, the better.

Otherwise.. sorry to say but you know all the ‘horror stories’ about Saturn:

That he can reduce a king to the stature of a beggar and..

make the beggar a king.

What people don’t realize is, there is no overnight success.

If a beggar becomes a king in Saturn MD, you bet he deserved it.

You bet, he had been trapped in the worldly punishment of living the life of a beggar only as a result of his circumstances, waiting.. surviving and holding on against all hope on what he knew he had to do and express in the material plane.

You can also bet that if a king becomes a beggar during Saturn’s ‘mahadasha’, it was because:

He failed to adapt.

He failed to change.

He failed to let go of his ego and do what was ‘required’ in the moment not what he ‘wanted’ to.

Try doing what you ‘want’ to in Saturn MD instead of what is ‘required’ and you will see Saturn will dissolve you and remove your traces from all the places you are proud of dominating.

And do more and more of what is ‘required’ in Saturn’s period and you will see that he will reward you by giving you more and more opportunities to do what you ‘want’.

Hope this helps.
