Hari Om!

(‘Kaali’ is the deity associated with the 12th house and there is reason for that. The reason can be found in her imagery. She represents a power that transcends the cycle of death and rebirth. In a way, she is part of the world but another worldly entity still.)
The 12th house belongs in the chart but is actually not part of the chart. You can say that.
The 12th house is representative of the ‘other world’.
This can be interpreted in many ways ranging from:
- foreign lands to meditative states,
- sleep,
- trance,
- altered states of consciousness as a result of psychedelics
- climax and release
- states of isolation from the outer world.
to
- MNCs, SEZs, embassies
- submarines
- labs and recording studios
- control towers
- space
- caves and deep forests.
- secret passageways
- imagination
- politics
I say ‘deep’ forests here as ‘forests’ in the usual sense are represented by the 10th house.
Now, not only Saturn and Sun, no malefic planet does here besides ‘Ketu’.
- That’s because ‘Ketu’ is actually not really a ‘malefic’ planet.
- He is a ‘yogi’ and ‘moksha-arthi’.
- Which means that his primary nature is that of searching for ‘moksha’ and transcendence.
- Yes, he can become malefic if you push him too much.
- Which means, if you are too dependent on the house where he sits, he will display his malefic nature in order to push you to move towards ‘Rahu’.
Now, there’s a reason that the malefic planets Sun, Saturn, North node and Mars don’t do well here in the 12th.
- That’s because the 12th house is where you lose energy.
- You want to put malefic planets in a places where you have conscious control over them.
- In the 12th house, malefic planets are placed in a way that causes you to lose control over them.
- Their significations and effects become difficult to direct and harness.
- This then creates problems.
For example in the case of Mars, the result of him being placed in the 12th is that the native may tend to be lax in the application of their will power, focus, strength and sub conscious.
- There may be a lot of unconscious expression of his energy in the native’s life like sudden bursts of anger or unresolved anger, tendency of passive aggressiveness and impulsive behavior.
- There can also be a natural tendency to expend a lot of energy by way of walking, talking or exercising.
- Alternatively, the native may choose to forego all of that and just express it through sleep.
Similarly in the case of the North node, there is a general imbalance in just about how much of energy to expend.
- Sometimes the native may overexert his or herself.
- Other times the native may completely let go.
- While the native’s life path in this lifetime definitely involves letting go and adopting spontaneity, this is quite often not as consciously expressed or regulated.
Similarly with Saturn and Sun, there is an imbalance in their expression which happens in a way that goes against their natural qualities.
With Saturn in the 12th:
- The native has difficulty ‘letting go’.
- That’s because the nature of Saturn is resistance to change and delay.
- Saturn is also the planet of routine, discipline and hard work.
- In the 12th house, his agendas are grossly mismatched with the placement.
- That’s because the nature of Saturn is resistance to change and delay.
- The 12th house is all about releasing need for structure, releasing need for routine, releasing need for excessive effort.
- Saturn placed here can result in an adverse impact on the individual’s needs to release ways of being in order to move ahead in life and embrace new goals, new adventures.
- The native can be quite stuck in his or her ways.
- This can also be seen in the form of an aversion to change, risk and surrendering/sharing control.
- There can also be a lack of belief in spiritual process, imagination and bed pleasures.
- Alternatively, Saturn can also force unwanted change on the native in some way and teach the tough lessons of life through such a change.
- Therefore Saturn in the 12th is not the most ideal placement.
- Saturn placed here can result in an adverse impact on the individual’s needs to release ways of being in order to move ahead in life and embrace new goals, new adventures.
- Ideally one would thing that Saturn does well in malefic houses and the 12th house is a malefic house.
- However the 12th house really is just a representation of the other world in the form of a house.
- Think of the chart ending at the 11th house and the 12th is an addendum to complete the circle and energy.
- However the 12th house really is just a representation of the other world in the form of a house.
Now with the Sun placed in the 12th:
A lot of that kinds of influences that arise with other malefic planets cause complications here but also some specific influences that erode the Sun’s power.
- First of all, Sun is considered the weakest in the 12th house.
- There is a reason for that.
- The Sun is representative of vitality, soul’s purpose, authority and favors from father/father figures/ government.
- When you take this energy and put it in the 12th house, you see that the individual begins to derive happiness and confidence from matters of the ‘other world’.
- Now in our times this may well be the placement of a social media influencer, diver or novelist.
- Back in ‘Vedic’ times, whenever we looked at a chart, the combinations that didn’t give adequate results as per the physical and material world, were considered ‘bad’.
- Also the Sun placed here can well show a monk, wanderer or spiritual teacher. These aren’t exactly ‘benefic’ results from a material perspective.
- No one wants to hear there is a chance their son could become a monk no matter how great!
- However, we must concede that some people with this placement may well turn out to be great spiritual teachers in some discipline.
These were the specific problems associated with the Sun in this placement.
- Now coming to general influences that affect all malefic planets, Sun here in the 12th house shows an individual who is happiest in seclusion.
- This placement decreases the chances of the native to shine in the usual world that he or she comes from.
- This takes the native away from the apparent, ‘visible’ world and leads the expression of the energy into a different area unseen by the regular world.
- Simply put, the ‘saatvic’ expression of the Sun’s energy that gives a person the courage, drive and vitality to take things head on, is eroded. The individual changes instead, to imbibe more of a manipulative and tactful nature.
Make no mistake, Sun in 12th house can result in a great politician. That is enough from the perspective of ‘material success’ I think.
- However, from the traditional perspective, the essence of the Sun’s nature is lost here.
- The individual may not find it that hard to compromise on certain codes of conduct that are considered honorable and dignified.
For any placement(s) in the 12th house giving you any problems, visiting ‘Kaali’ temple can help.
- There’s a main temple in Kolkata, the ‘Kalighat’ temple.
- The cover image is of the imagery of Goddess ‘Kaali’ from that temple.
- This is an exceptionally kind and motherly aspect of the divine goddess wherein she is blessing with two hands and the other two hands are respectively for detaching from illusion and leading towards ‘moksha’.
- Chanting/ listening to her ‘beej mantra’ ‘Kreem’ regularly, can also help.
Do bear in mind that planetary aspects, conjunctions, ‘avasthas’ and divisional chart placements can modify the impact of these placements quite a bit. At a general level we can say this is what happens but even ‘nakshatra’ placements can have a sizable influence in modifying the results given by such specific placements.
Hope this helped.
Hari Om!
