What happens when Rahu and Moon conjunct in horoscope?

Hari Om Namo Narayana!

(‘Mahatma Gandhi’ had ‘Rahu’ Moon conjunction in his 10th house.)

  • I’m going to go out on a limb on this one. I never do but I’m going to, in the best interest of people who follow my answers and posts to learn ‘Jyotisha’. Now, if you have this conjunction, don’t get triggered, read till the end.
  • This is, the most dreadful and difficult conjunction to have in your chart.
  • This single conjunction has enough potential to trash the entire chart no matter how great the promised results by other planets or ‘yogas’ etc.
  • So, first of all, if you have this conjunction, I would suggest you integrate the chanting of the ‘mantra’ ‘Hreem’, in your daily life. Preferably as soon as you wake up. This will give you the blessings of Goddess ‘Bhuvaneshwari’, who is the ‘mahavidya’ ruling the planet Moon.
  • Now, I don’t normally just give out ‘mantras’ unless someone approaches me for one in a personal reading. This is because I feel a ‘mantra’ should be given only to the person who is ardent and devoted in pursuit of the same.
    • There are a lot of ‘tantric mantras’ out there and all over the internet but don’t go about randomly, without knowing their relevance or meaning for your chart, chanting and listening, practicing them. ‘Mantras’ are like gemstones. Especially ‘tantric mantras’. If you wear the wrong one you can potentially invite chaos into your life instead of prosperity.
  • Why did I give out the ‘mantra’ in this case, so easily and at the beginning of the answer itself?
    • Because for someone with ‘Rahu’ Moon in their chart, it can quite often feel like putting a penguin in the Namib desert.
    • These people, inside their minds, are so far removed from what feels ‘comfortable’ and ‘familiar’ to them, that they quite often get stuck in action.
    • When they do try to take action, quite often they head in the wrong direction.
    • It takes them quite a while in life to actually truly understand and realize what is the best path, the most suitable ‘approach’, the ‘truth’, the ‘reality’ of things.
    • Quite often these individuals are unaware of their own feelings.
    • They are the kind of people who can wake up angry at their partner because they had a bad dream the previous night in which their partner was cheating on them.
    • They might actually break up with their partner to get back at them because of what they dreamt of. Alternatively, their entire day may be ruined because they can’t get overt the trauma of what happened in a ‘dream’!
      • Extremely sensitive individuals.
      • Very sensitive.
      • So sensitive that these people can even sense subtle variations in the other person’s mood and just flee the situation.
      • Quite often it is very difficult for these people to balance out their emotions and ‘dial down’ their sensitivity.
      • What is their coping mechanism then?
      • To completely shut down their emotions.
      • Man, if you are in a relationship with a person with ‘Rahu’ Moon conjunction, you really need to have a developed spiritual side or you simply will misunderstand these individuals every step of the way.
  • In fact, in addition to being an astrologer and studying charts with this conjunction, I have had the dubious distinction of experiencing this conjunction from very close quarters in my life.
    • Due to some planetary alignments in my chart, I have a natural ‘karma’ with ‘Rahu’ moon people. Some very important people in my life, both personally and professionally, have this conjunction.
  • Now, I have written a lot about it from a mental health perspective in my “Astrology and Mental Health” series on my website.
    • Based on the degrees of ‘Rahu’ and Moon, this conjunction can have subtle differences in how it plays out.
    • The overall theme remains the same but if ‘Rahu’ has moved past the Moon, it has effectively ‘eclipsed’ it. If it is still nearing the Moon, it hasn’t yet done anything but still has overblown the energy of the Moon in the chart.
    • The second scenario wherein ‘Rahu’ hasn’t yet eclipsed the Moon is slightly better than the first as in the first, there is a lot of tendency of mental health issues.
    • In the second scenario, the condition is slightly better but the individual can still lose control of their emotions from time to time and ‘behave like a child’ in some of the most inappropriate situations.
      • Make no mistake, people with this placement are quite often very creative and intuitive. They have a way of expressing their emotions that is quite often, very quiet and introverted. They are quite often the kind of people who like their work to do the talking.
      • Take Gandhi for instance, he had this conjunction in his tenth house and ultimately his way of working silently to build a system of volunteers and leaders from the ground up across ‘ashrams’ in India is what lead to the downfall of the British.
      • Further, if you read his autobiography, you will be able to understand a lot about his struggles from a human perspective. How he channeled sexual energy and infatuation for his wife into a more spiritual relationship and understanding of universal love and love for one’s country than merely love for an individual.
      • Yes there is all sorts of misinformation about this topic and a lot of propaganda does rounds on the internet in all forms but do note that it’s better to hear directly from the horse’s mouth. If you read his autobiography, the real perspective, is all in there and interestingly, hardly anything is left out. From why he favored vegetarianism to the concept of being truthful, experimenting with religion and using Christian beliefs as a tool to get back at the British themselves. Classic case of ‘Rahu’ Moon being the stamp of an pioneer.
      • Obviously, this conjunction plays out very differently for men and women. For women it can translate to a very extroverted femininity. A notable example for the same would be Catherine Zeta Jones. I’ll add more examples and case studies as an edit later on.
  • Let’s get into the planetary aspects of what actually is happening here:
  1. Rahu’ conjunct any planet in the birth chart shows that the individual is here to develop those characteristics in this lifetime.
  2. The said planet doesn’t mature until ‘Rahu’ matures at the age of 41 (42nd year).
  3. So throughout life therefore, the person faces challenges related to the areas of that planet because the native doesn’t quite understand how to regulate the energy signified by that planet in the chart. Sometimes it bursts out uncontrolled and sometimes it is found lacking when deeply needed.
  4. In the case of ‘Rahu’ Moon therefore, one can say that the individual doesn’t quite understand and master ‘emotions’ until the second part of life after ‘Rahu’ matures.
  5. The individual therefore struggles to display, comprehend and work through their emotions and the workings of the mind.
    1. In the worst case scenario, sometimes they may be overtaken by a wave of suicidal, depressive thoughts, other times it could be anxiety, sometimes it is anger, other times it is fear. It’s a constant roller coaster of emotions and quite often this leads the individual down the path of addictions of all kinds to ‘escape the pain’.
  6. Things improve a little bit after Saturn matures which is around 34 (35th year) and after that they keep maturing progressively until ‘Rahu’ matures’.
  7. The Saturn return occurring between 28–30 can be especially difficult for these individuals.
  8. Sade Sati’ also is much more tougher for these individuals and it can quite often lead to them being withdrawn and cut off from their circle of friends, colleagues and even family.
  9. Another issue is that of trust as quite often these people, early on at least, are not very good judges of character and can end up being duped or cheated. Quite often this is ‘karmic’ because if you take the Moon chart, ‘Ketu’ goes in the 7th house and then that shows a lot of ‘karmic’ relationships in their lives.
  10. Now, these things can be a lot better if:
    1. The placements of ‘Rahu’ and Moon are in good ‘nakshatras.
    2. The lord of the sign in which this conjunction is placed, is well placed in the chart.
    3. The conjunction gets benefic aspects from other planets.
    4. Now this is very interesting and I bet a lot of you probably won’t know this:
    5. If Moon is placed in the ‘nakshatra’ of ‘Rahu’ then this can be the conjunction of pioneer.
    6. Why? Because the individual’s mind develops in a completely different pattern that their surroundings. It’s like you see Red as Green and Green as Red but that’s okay because your Red is Green and my Green is Red but we can communicate.
    7. I know, this previous point must be hard to grasp at once. Read it again you will get it. It’s based on a very popular thought experiment that questions that basis of our understanding and grasping of colors.
    8. Also, if ‘Rahu’ is placed in Moon’s ‘nakshatra’ then also this can be a good conjunction.
    9. There are good aspects of this conjunction too. Make no mistake, ‘Rahu’ conjunct any planet means the individual is here to develop those traits in this lifetime therefore there is a natural gift to be reaped in that area. So yes, that is there. It’s just that the part of life between the age of 25–31 can be especially difficult for these people. More specifically 26–30.

This is because this is the age range when the two very important malefic planets Saturn and Mars mature and they being malefic obviously don’t just mature with easy experiences. So those tougher experiences can weigh heavily on the minds of these people.

Worshipping ‘Shiva’ and wearing a South Sea Pearl 6.25 carat in silver can also be very helpful to people with this conjunction.

Hope this helps.
