Is the effect of Ketu in the 7th house bad for marriage and relationships?

Hari Om Namo Narayana!

(Goddess ‘Tripura Bhairavi’ is the consort of ‘Bhairava’, the fierce aspect of Shiva. Her energy can have a healing impact for anyone facing marital problems related to this placement. )

I have just written an answer about the impact of the North node ‘Rahu’ in the first house. You are encouraged to check that out as that explores the other half of the energy of this nodal placement. https://coachkaushal.com/2025/07/30/what-is-the-effect-of-rahu-in-lagna-the-1st-house/

Now, whenever you have the South node in any placement in the ‘kendra’ houses i.e. 1,4,7,10, it’s usually never about ‘destruction’ of anything.

I don’t know why people associate the South node with destruction. The South node is actually about ‘liberation’. You need to change the narrative here and tap into the energy of what is being taught, what you are being directed towards.

‘Destructions’ definitely can be a negative aspect of this shadow planet as the ways of teaching of the South node tend to be quite extreme.

  • The South node teaches you detachment by taking things, people, situations and security away. What hurts is quite often the way of the South node ‘Ketu maharaj’, is to do so suddenly.
  • There is a prominent element of suddenness associated with the South node.

See every planetary energy is doing nothing more but playing its part in raising your consciousness.

At the end of the day, the purpose of incarnation is the growth of consciousness. That is what the simulation of life seeks to deliver upon.

So when you talk about all the vagaries of life: suffering, pain, loss, struggle et all.. you are essentially talking about ‘shocks’ delivered to you now and then to ‘awaken’ you.

Awaken you to the reality that this is just an illusion not matter how pleasant or unpleasant.

At the end of the day, all is ‘maaya’. That’s it.

And the South node is the expert in this domain in fact as he is in charge of releasing knowledge from your previous lifetimes.

  • Where South node is in your chart, that is where you have amassed considerable expertise from previous lifetimes.
  • That is what comes naturally to you and is familiar to you.
  • That is what seems ‘safest’ to you.
  • However that is also what you are here to release in this lifetime so that your consciousness can grow and evolve in its journey towards the North node.

When you have the south node placed in the 7th house it shows us that you are most comfortable in relationships. That’s where you find security. You probably feel out of sorts alone.

By relationships I don’t necessarily mean ‘romantic’ relationships but relationships in general. You have a great knack for managing relationships and keeping the peace in all circumstances.

That’s because the 7th house is the natural house of Libra which is the sign of balance, harmony and peace.

Therefore that is what seems to you to be the most vital thing in life: to have a harmonious, peaceful relationship dynamic with others.

  • You know a lot of people with this placement can quite often be pushovers early in life.
  • That’s because they haven’t yet put in the work to build and shape their individuality.
  • That’s because with the North node in the first house, that is actually a lifetime project! This is what they are here for. They will naturally gravitate towards that because the soul inherently is always aware of its purpose, however that isn’t where they have the most experience or knowledge.
    • So as a result these individuals quite often get into a marriage early on in life without properly weighing the pros and cons.
    • Later on they realize that there really isn’t much room for them to express their individuality.

Now quite often when you have the South node in the 7th house, you have a very spiritual spouse who does their thing and you do yours.

Sometimes however it comes as a shock to the spouses of these people when they find out after marriage that their partner is turning into a whole new person!

If the spouse is also dominant in their ‘Rahu’ nature then this is a difficult match to sustain because there is no one to make the compromise.

This is quite often why you will see marriages between two people who are both politicians or both entrepreneurs or both film stars seldom last.

Why?

  • Both have an abundance of the individualistic energy of the North node and it is difficult for them to make concessions for the other. It’s not about being selfish or anything but the only way you have two individuals in a marriage where both are individualistic, is if they at least have different spheres of dominance.
  • So when you have a situation where a person with the North node in the first house find themselves in a relationship where their partner is constantly “demanding something of them that they don’t understand” and/or are “tired of the fighting”, it’s because the flow of life is pushing them to focus more on themselves and the energetic involvement with the ‘self’ and preserving the self, pursuing personal goals and ambitions is so much that there is a disconnect with others.

Such a situation can be tackled by tapping in to the energy of the placement.

  • How that can work is the native focuses hard on themselves let’s say 5 days of the week.
  • 2 days of the week the native sets aside for relaxing with their spouse in which time they only focus on ‘taking it easy’.
  • You try that and it can work like magic seriously.
    • I’ve actually seen people with this placement who live in a different city as their spouse and the energy is well expressed. They have some dynamics of making it work and there’s a lot of love.
    • So the main thing is there needs to be some space that you create between yourself and your spouse.

However, you need a spouse who is understanding and gives you the space you need. That’s it. That’s what is your requirement.

If you are too attached and reliant on your spouse however then things get tricky.

  • That’s because with the South node there, you need to focus on yourself until the age of 48 after which the South node matures and you can be free of these lessons.
  • But I’m not saying until then become selfish and forget about your spouse! I am saying you have to learn to be the leader and you have to learn to be assertive, confident and take charge in partnerships and marriage.
  • If you are too reliant on your spouse to help you in your journey of evolution then the power of South node will strike negatively.

For example, quite often people with the North node in the first house complain when they are having problems with their spouse about how “their partner calls them a child” and/or “finds them immature”.

If that happens then it means you need to redirect focus towards the self, the first house, your individuality and your passions.

Pick a sport, learn an instrument, take up a hobby!

And surprise your spouse every now and then with these talents and skills you add to yourself.

If you become too reliant on others however and especially your spouse.. in the pursuit of that which is your heart’s calling.. then you are upsetting the balance of energy in your life and it will create problems.

This is why quite often people with ‘Rahu’ Moon conjunction face problems in relationships.

Why?

  • Because if you look at it, from the Moon chart, they have the North node in the ascendant.

The fact that the North node is conjunct the Moon certainly doesn’t help.

So yeah.

You just need a spiritual and understanding partner who gives you a lot of space.

And you need to learn to be independent and respect your partner’s boundaries.

What else can you do?

  • Well praying for goddess ‘Bhairavi’s’ blessings certainly can help.
  • She is the consort of ‘Bhairava’ who is the ruling deity of the North node.
  • She is especially related to happiness in marital life and love affairs.
  • To appease her, you can offer her red flowers and a shaved coconut with a ‘bodi’ in any of her temples.
    • What is the logic behind making such an offering?
      • Well red flowers and in particular red hibiscus flowers are considered to be her favorite and in fact the flower is associated with themes of fertility across cultures.
      • Another thing is that she has a somewhat ‘tamsic’ energy and the coconut is a common substitute for a sacrificial offering.
      • You can also do a ‘saadhna’ to appease her.

Obviously specific solutions can only be advised after studying the chart in detail.

Hope this helps.
