How can one strengthen Jupiter according to Vedic astrology? Are there any mantras or pujas that can help alleviate its negative effects on our life?

Hari Om!

(Found in both ‘Shakt’ and ‘Vajrayana’ tradition, Goddess ‘Taara’ is the deity ruling Jupiter. She radiates the energy of growth for all life and beings.)

See here’s the thing:

Whenever people talk about ‘strengthening’ a planet, I wonder through what lens they’re looking at this planet.

A planet can be ‘strong’ and pretty unhelpful for you.

A planet can be ‘weak’ but pretty helpful for you.

I shall illustrate the same with an example ahead but it is important to point out here that ‘negative’ effects from a planet are not as simple as talked about online in videos, consultations and articles.

It’s really not that simple.

For example, I know someone whose child was going through ‘Rahu mahadasha’ and having a lot of problems as a result of that.

That seemed natural to me since ‘Rahu’ major periods aren’t that easy to navigate for people and I was helping that kid overcome that ‘confusion’ and learn how to ride that wave of that energy.. and making progress with it.

However, one aspect of that energy was (his North node was placed in the 8th) obsessiveness and secrecy.

It however made him great at data science and gave him a naturally investigative bent of mind. He was into penetration testing and ethical hacking and all that jazz.

Now, the parents got sick of their child’s obsessive, secretive, risk taking behavior and decided to get a ‘Shanti path’ done’.

Everything seemed to be great for a while..

until one day the kid lost all interest in data, ethical hacking etc.

He shifted his focus to finance (natural with the South node in the second) and couldn’t get into any college he wanted in his country despite trying very hard.

He ultimately got admission to a college away from home and 2 years into his degree, his relationship with his parents is all but distant.

You can’t really complain since his behaviors aren’t ‘bad’ so to speak.

His connection with his family and life however seems all but severed.

Now, let’s get back to the answer:

One of the easiest ways to understand a planet is to dive into its ‘Shakti’ or ruling ‘Mahavidya’ energy in the background.

The ‘Shakti’ for various ‘nakshatras’ you may have heard about but what is the ‘Shakti’ of a planet?

It’s pretty similar to the ‘Shakti of a lunar mansion as in the abilities that it provides to the native. With a little bit of a twist.

Let me explain:

There are back stories to all entities in the scriptures.

..So the planet Jupiter or ‘Brihaspati’ in ‘Vedic’ knowledge is associated with making the appropriate offerings to the gods to impress them, express gratitude and seek their blessings.

That’s essentially what the role of the ‘Guru’ of the Gods is, as described in the texts. That’s essentially what he would do most of the time.

Why is that?

That’s because ‘knowledge’ from a ‘Vedic’ sense is essentially the knowledge of the entire Sanskrit ‘multiverse’ so to speak.

Haha.

No seriously. According to ‘Vedic’ knowledge, the ‘Vedas’ transcend time and human effort. It’s just the physical expression in B&W of eternal knowledge that reverberates through the universe.

Within the universe of the ‘Vedas’, ‘Puranas’, ‘Upanishads’ et all, is arguably contained all of the knowledge that is needed for us to advance as a civilization.

How can it be you ask?

Yes, it can be so because one of the most important concepts in ‘Vedic’ literature and culture and essentially its most important aspect in fact…

Is that all of this knowledge is open to different interpretations.

Now Jupiter is a planet, an energy, an entity that deals with propagation of this source material.

His energy and his ‘Shakti’ is the power to ‘grow’.

Jupiter concerns himself with the propagation and adherence of this knowledge and in fact if you adapt it in a multicultural way, Jupiter’s energy is all about expanding and preserving what is already there.

Innovation is the domain of ‘Rahu’.

Discipline is the domain of ‘Shani

Honor is the domain of ‘Surya’.

and so and so forth for the other planets..

People who have Jupiter working well for them, may express traits that are not ‘ideally’ in consistency with the energies of Jupiter but to their benefit.

People who have an ‘unsupportive’ Jupiter, may express traits that are very Jupitarian but not for their own benefit.

Please note here that I’m not saying people have Jupiter placed in this ‘house’ or that ‘dignity’ etc.

I am saying people who have Jupiter ‘working well’ for them i.e. through a combination of factors, who are able to access and express Jupitarian energy in the best way.. will be able to apply it to the benefit of their lives.

For example, people who are teachers are automatically closer to Jupitarian energy (even if they have a debilitated Jupiter in their chart) compared to let’s say a pharma researcher who has Jupiter exalted or in great dignity and ‘avastha’.

However, the same teacher may well be quite dogmatic and rigid in their beliefs while that pharma researcher could be a great researcher precisely because of their ‘inclusive’ nature.

Get me?

Even if in Case no.2, the pharma researcher may be diluting ‘tradition’ and let’s say, openly sharing secret knowledge for the benefit of society, such as let’s say choosing not to patent an important drug that can be used by the world for advancement, his Jupiter may not be the most ‘profitable’ planet for him.

It may well be so that he dies poor and lonely because of this ‘giving’ nature.

In Case no.1 however, let’s say that teacher is very good at teaching the course material to the T and how it is meant to be taught by the board and is even successful in indoctrinating young minds to a certain way of being. Now this teacher may well advance through the ranks and become quite respected and even feared.

How can one really say which of the cases above expresses a ‘better’ Jupiter?

If you look only from the person’s perspective, Case 1 is ‘positive’. From the people’s perspective as whole, Case 2 is ‘positive’.

So just keep this in mind whenever you are worried about how a planet is working for you.

I do understand however that if directed to choose only between the two cases above, most people would choose Case 1 over Case 2.

So therefore, the answer being sought here is how can we ensure and what can we do so that Jupiter is positive for us in our ‘personal’ journey on the material plane? haha Right?

Well here you go:

  1. Jupiter loves ‘tradition’ and ‘customs’ and ‘process’.
    1. Conducting a ‘homa’ every Thursday will superpower your Jupiter for sure. Doesn’t matter where he sits or what he does.
    2. Any kind of regular ‘mantra’ practice that is done under the supervision of a ‘guru’ or advice of the same, will help improve your Jupiter.
    3. Fasting on Thursdays (following the complete Do’s & Don’ts of process for doing so, which can be a bit elaborate btw) and reciting ‘Brihaspati Stotram’ will be very beneficial also.
    4. Feeding/ offering service to ‘brahmins’, teachers, ‘Gurus’, religious figures will also help.
  2. Wearing a 5-faced ‘Rudraksha’ beads (108 beads or single bead)
    1. Any kind of seeds esp. from fruits or flowering plants are associated with Jupiter.
    2. The 5-faced Jupiter in specific, is very closely related to the energy of Jupiter and helps supercharge the same.
    3. The 108 beads rosary is great for seekers on the spiritual path, the single bead is great for everybody.
      1. You do need to ensure however that you’re following a ‘saatvic’ lifestyle if you’re wearing any kind of ‘Rudraksha’ beads.
      2. At the very least, you can take off the beads before you consume non-veg, alcohol or anything like that.
      3. I’d like to say here that I don’t really truly support food restrictions (except beef which is clearly & squarely forbidden), that’s because everyone has distinct body types, body systems and requirements. There’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to food. However, as I told you, ‘Jupiter’ is a very ‘tradition oriented’ planet. So you can’t impress him if you don’t play by his rules. Plus, ‘Rudraksha’ beads are not ‘fashion’ as they are made out to be these days. This is a highly spiritual tool to be treated with respect.
  3. You can also place a ‘Taara yantram’ in your home preferably on the Northern wall/ Northern side.
    1. Make sure the surroundings are clean and it’s not right next to a toilet or washing place.
    2. Why this suggestion? Because Goddess ‘Taara’ is the ‘mahavidya’ of Jupiter and so impressing here is enough to supercharge the effects of Jupiter in your life.
  4. The ‘mantra’ of Jupiter is ‘Om Graam Greem Gron Seh Guruve Namah’.
    1. Chanting this 108 times every morning at dawn can be very helpful.
    2. If you can do so while wearing yellow clothes and sitting on a yellow cloth, facing North, it will give even more powerful results.

This should suffice for people seeking ‘personal gain’ from Jupitarian energy.

For the ‘altruists, and ‘givers’, here are some bonus suggestions that will help you bring the right balance in this energy while also giving to the world what you seek to:

  1. Goddess ‘Taara’ (her Vajrayana expression) can be very beneficial for you.
    1. Just pick which form of hers most appeals to you. Is it Green ‘Taara’, Yellow ‘Taara’ or White? (She is expressed in 5 different colors and 21 different forms)
    2. Since this representation of Goddess ‘Taara’ is one in which she is a ‘Bodhisattva’ i.e. a transcended master who has returned to the material plane to ease the suffering of the world, she is fastest to respond to the ‘healers’ and givers of the world.
    3. If you can build a connection with her by placing her idol, chanting her ‘mantra’ or both, her benevolent energy will ensure that you always get back as you give.
  2. Strengthening your Sacral ‘chakra’ can be very helpful.
    1. Just use this ‘Tantric mantra’ for the Sacral Space to awaken and balance the Jupitarian energy within you.
    2. You can practice it like point no. 4 (k) as detailed above.

In addition to all of this, offering yellow flowers to the photo of your ‘Guru’, who you consider to be your ‘Guru’ or to an idol/photo of Lord Vishnu/ Goddess ‘Taara’, can be very helpful in attracting luck and wisdom to you.

This should suffice for now. Will add more in edits later if required.
