Don’t you dare
Give up
On your dreams.
Don’t you dare.

Don’t you dare
Convince yourself,
You’re not good enough.
Don’t you quit!

Even if your pockets are empty
Your fridge is empty
Your health is waning
And your bills are all past due.
Don’t you quit!

Even if they keep telling you
That you’re crazy.
Keep telling you
That you’re done,
That you’re finished;

Just Smile.

Rise again
From your ashes,
Like the phoenix.

Life is breaking you
Bit by bit.
Killing your ‘self’
Day by day.

One day this old ‘you’,
This weak you,
This hopeless you,
This defeated you;

Will be broken.
Will be dead.

One day, a new you;
The real you,
The invincible you,
The indefatigable you,
The conquerer you;
The greatest version of yourself..
Will be born.

But before that,

Like the phoenix,
You must burn.

Like the phoenix,
From the ashes of your old self..

YOU must be born again.

    1. Thank you so much Roshna. I couldn’t think of a more enigmatic analogy when it comes to self improvement and the never ending cycle of success failure success in life.

  1. I haven’t really literally heard your voice, but through this poem I feel like I already did. This creates such a powerful tone that hits you right in your head. Manipulative in a good way, making me want to never quit after reading this.

    1. Oh my god Apple… this is the biggest prize I could have gotten for my work. That you can ‘listen’ to my voice in my writing. Bravo! to you as a reader and your poetic sense. I am blessed to have someone like you who can truly appreciate what I have written. You are bang on target.. I had recorded this poem on my phone sitting on a park bench. I came home and wrote it down!! Wow.
